HebCelt day 2

Felt rather more human this morning than I did on the Thursday (Note to self - don’t drink so much wine!) and we took a lazy morning to get organised for the first full day of HebCelt before heading into Stornoway for lunch at a gorgeous restaurant called Digby Chick - excellent food at £15.95 for 2 courses. Very delicious.

Before lunch we stopped in at the Town Hall to visit the Iolaire exhibition - it’s the 100th anniversary of the disaster which saw 208 men drown when the ship bringing them home from WW1 crashed in the rocks just outside the entrance to Stornoway harbour around 2am on the 1st of January. Most couldn’t swim and wearing woollen uniforms and heavy boots couldn’t have been anything but a hindrance in the stormy weather.
Many villages lost all their menfolk and have never recovered. Very poignant exhibition and memorial in the square behind the town Hall.

Headed back to the car to put on our wellies and off to the festival sure we went. Great day of sunshine and some clouds and we spent it visiting the two main tents listening to some favours bands - Breabach, Jakes Edwin and the Borrowed Band, the youth and the young, Ferris and Sylvester and Jigjam to make a few before tonight’s headline of KT Tunstall. She really got the crowd going and threw black pudding into the crowd (wish I’d been closer to the front).

Back to the campsite for midnight so back blipping this on Saturday Morning.
