Penrith Show
Penrith Show day and as usual I am prepping the Lodge. Fortunately the guests left early and were kind enough to let us know. The second bit of good fortune is the Lodge is only a couple of miles from the field. This gave me half a day to enjoy the show.
The cattle and sheep lines, always a mecca for me were as always large and impressive. One change I have seen in recent years is every cow (including bulls) has its own "pop-up gazebo" over it.Something else which features highly at this show are horses. I always try for for a few shots of the jumping. This shot shows a Fell Pony (local breed) going over one of the beginners jumps.
The extra is the final of the World Championship Cumberland Wrestling under 18s. The title was eventually won by a local lad (in white top) his oponent was from Rothbury but might in some years have been from abroad. Sadly they no longer seem to wear the traditional "long Johns" with embroidered trunks over them. On the plus side at least there were a lot of youngsters carrying on this traditional sport. Many from Carlisle Wrestling Club.
