Fan's prize

She systematically gobbled up peanut after peanut in the unrelenting heat, packing her checks till they looked like they would burst. Then we offered one of the cherries we were munching on. She snatched it, removed the stem, spun it around and made a bee-line to her burrow, the prize between her teeth.
