Cosy Crime?
I saw this book for just £1, looked new, in a charity shop. It caught my eye because I had recently received an e-mail to meet this very author at a session in Ulverston Library - just £2 including refreshments, and she was going to discuss this book. It turns out she published it herself- oh no did that mean it was going to be dreadful? I went along, got it signed. She was impressed I had the book - did I like it?
This was the wrong question- I could answer with yes and she got no more information out of me. If instead she had asked; What did you think of the book? I would have had to admit that ,despite her saying that she had tried hard to elevate it above "Cosy Crime" - by making the detective heroine a journalist specialising in sex therapy , I was not sure she had succeeded and it was much too light weight (I guess that's what cosy crime means) for my taste, I'm a Nordic Noir sort of person.
Why did I buy it- because it was set in Norfolk and Mums father's family came from there. I thought she had depicted Norfolk country folk pretty well and told her that. She was pleased.
There is to be a sequel which maybe I will buy to see whether she has improved - but only if I find it for £1
