Small Tortoiseshell

A rather pristine specimen in the garden this afternoon, seen as I was gardening.  I was planning to go back to the field boundary where I was photographing yesterday but then felt too tired.  I was awake for several hours in the night, woken by the sound of beating rain and hail and then dazzled by the brilliant flashes.  Some people were talking about taking photographs on FB but I couldn’t even see out of the window.
