Wednesday: The Slimy Kelps

Guide Joe told us today that bull kelp can also be used as a musical instrument.  Miller and Lynne, who both played woodwind at various points, proved the point.  Miller was particularly accomplished, playing a very solid 'Last Post'.  The name of their new duo is 'The Slimy Kelps'.

We left the whaling station this morning.  Before we departed, we went for a walk in the forest where we were shown an old Haida canoe that someone started carving about a hundred years ago.  It's completely overgrown with moss and was left unfinished.......it's presumed that the carver died of small pox.  There are few other reasons why a canoe would be left unfinished.  

This afternoon we stopped off at some natural hot springs.  We all took advantage.......

Back at the floating lodge where we spent the first night of this trip.  Sidney, the chef, was waiting for us with a superlative sweet potato soup, followed by lasagne (and rhubarb cobbler).

Extras:
i) Gearing up for the day;
ii) Our transport for the week - unsurprisingly, we had to pack light
iii) Fuzzy - but it proves I saw one.
