Imperfect perfect
This is a male brimstone in flight. Very excited as this sort of pic isn't a specialism of mine. Who'd have thought they were such a beautiful bright yellow and have those gorgeous orange spots? Even my classy fieldguide only shows them with their wings closed. As seen here, he's flying between the flowers of marjoram (origanum vulgare) and red hemp-nettle (galeopsis augustifolia).
However, there is slight movement in the body, so I have added a more technically correct Extra of the same butterfly landing on hemp-nettle. You know, just to prove the heat hasn't melted my brain. (Actually it has, but never mind that).
Both were taken this morning when I walked up to the butterfly reserve before breakfast hoping to avoid the heat. Some hope. Never mind, I'm using it as an excuse not to listen to any news today. One more sound of the dulcet tones of BJ or JRM and I'm afraid my brain will not just melt but dribble down the drain.
Happy Thursday evening xx
