On the tube

We travelled into London again this evening to attend another concert in the BBC Proms series at the Royal Albert Hall.

This evening it was the National Youth Orchestra - always astonishingly accomplished and inspiring.  The two main works were the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, with soloist Nicola Benedetti (a great supporter of young musicians who paid tribute to the hard work of the orchestra during the excessive heat of the last week), and excerpts from Prokofiev's ballet "Romeo and Juliet".

As an exciting and lively encore, the orchestra played another piece of music from a Romeo and Juliet inspired work - "Mambo" from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" - with choreographed moves and twirls from the sections of the orchestra.  Unsurprisingly, there was an enthusiatic response from the audience.

A fun, uplifting concert of great music performed by talented young musicians.

The tube journey back was OK: a pity our train out from Kings Cross was cancelled, so we were back home half an hour later than we should have been - a late night, and we have another concert tomorrow night.
