Llangathen Churchyard Yews

Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . . for a reminder of lives lost

We found ourselves on a bit of a family history hunt today.

We had tried before to find the First World War Memorial containing the names of Will's Great Uncles Alcwyn and Evan without success.  They were both buried 'in a foreign land' where they died - Alcwyn in Egypt and Evan in France - but we knew that there was a memorial to them somewhere near their home village of Golden Grove.

We tried the churchyard of Llangathen Church above where there was a memorial - but with no luck.  But then, with a bit of help from a friendly local and just on the off chance, we tried inside the Church at Golden Grove.  And there it was - not in stone, but carved in a wooden panel behind the altar.

It somehow made a big difference that we had found it and seen it for ourselves.  It was easier to think of them as two brothers who had lived real lives but sacrificed them for the generation to come . . . . .
