RENDEZ-VOUS À LA CATHÉDRALE 2019, “UN ARBRE EN LIBERTÉ…” - Bayeux, Normandy

Another day where plans went astray, and another day of steaming heat, 39 degrees!

After yesterday’s shunt, our itinerary changed dramatically so that we could pick up new rear lights and bumper for the van, spare parts that are impossible to find in the U.K. Even in France Citroen HY van spares are hard to come by, so we had a three hour drive in sweltering heat to the west coast of Normandy, followed by another two hours drive back east again to Bayeux, our camp for the night.

Bayeux wasn’t our original intended destination, but we knew a good campsite, and we knew that we’d be able to enjoy the cathedral’s stunning son et lumière show. So after an unbearably hot and humid afternoon (our pitch had no shade!) we walked along the riverside footpath into the city, treated ourselves to a meal out, and then found a perch to sit and wait for dusk to fall and for the sound and light show to begin.
