Rockpooling

Today was my Fossil Walk at West Runton beach. The area is known as a great place for rockpooling, being voted No.1 in Europe in 2016. Now I know that what I'm looking at it is the base level of chalk (covered in seaweed and algae) which was formed from the skeletons of small organisms living in the sea 65-100 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the land. Also on this beach there's a lots of flint pebbles which were formed from nodules that weathered out of the chalk as seen in my extra of the dog walkers. 

An initiative has just launched in the area to promote its ancient history. The Deep History Coast refers to the 22-mile stretch of coastline between Weybourne and Cart Gap which has revealed finds including the discovery of the West Runton Mammoth; and human footprints in the clay on the beach at Happisburgh from 800,000 years ago (the earliest evidence of human occupation in northern Europe).
