Wildlife at home

I planted some turmeric roots in a pot filled with compost. I left it in the conservatory but it was slow to sprout. Occasionally I gave it a little water to keep the soil  damp. Then I noticed a deep indentation in the pot, as if a small deer had stood in it. But there are no deer here.
Peering in, I saw two bright eyes peering back at me and the rapid pulsing of a throat - a toad's throat. I think it's living in there. It's a toad in the hole.
