Diary of an Edinburgher

Culture!

The last sunny day for a while, according to the BBC weather app. And it was gorgeous.

After Archie had gone off with Elizabeth, we popped in to town for a coffee at Brew Lab (plain flat white, no sugar) on our way to the Grayson Perry exhibition. He has several humungous tapestries, telling the story of the (fictional) Julie Cope from Essex. They were colourful and full of detail, and were so huge that they couldn’t fit in unless they were on an angle. We were in awe at how the tapestries were made, but were told by the girl at reception that were done by computer (in Flanders), each huge tapestry taking 5 hours. And this is Edition No 9. Somewhat took the magic and mystery from them...

We then had a wander through town and up the Royal Mile. My goodness it was mobbed!! same old uni cyclists, jugglers, fire eaters, balloon artists...

It got too much for us so we popped in to the Signet Library. Haven’t been there for several years because last time we visited they were playing pop muzak (in the most lovely grand library surrounds). Most inappropriate. However, this time they had quiet piano music. Much better. We had a small glass of fizz and enjoyed the peace and quiet before heading out into the mayhem for the bus home.

A quick lie down, got the washing in, then we walked down to Elizabeth's flat, along with Rufus and his mum, for drinkies and nibbles, to meet her Spanish visitors (and to retrieve Archie).

A fun evening ensued. And a taxi home, as Rufus and I were too tired to walk! (6,447 steps!)
