Who do I think I am?
Well this last course of antibiotics seems to have prevented whatever bug I had getting on my chest and although it was the same as the last one it really wiped me out hence my continued absence. However, whilst feeling sorry for myself I re-read a letter I'd received a few months earlier which started:
"I am the grandson of xxx who was your grandfather xxx's younger sister. Thus we are cousins".
After receiving the letter my brother and I had contact with the author and established he was not some sort of trickster. We said it would be interesting to do something about starting a family tree - but as usual nothing happened. So having re-read the letter I thought I should explore how to go about it. BBC web site has some very useful information for beginners and I soon started to be enthused. In the run up to Christmas we went to a Swedish Christmas Eve party and there caught up with an old friend who told me he was studying for a qualification in genealogy which he intends to do after he retires in a couple of years. So I signed up for a free trial with one of the family Tree sites. It could have been a mistake as the amount of time spent on exploring census returns, birth marriage and death lists etc. etc. The result so far is my blip for today - a screen shot of my tree. Nothing very surprising so far but it is fascinating.
As the tree has grown I realise it's not just for my interest but for my kids and grandkids so they know not only where they come from but also who is related to who...
