"Biggles"
After a bit of shopping in Ashford, we carried on down the M20 to the Kent coast near Folkestone, ending up at the Battle of Britian Memorial on the cliffs at Capel-le-Ferne.
At the centre of the memorial is a statue of a young flyer to represent those young men who flew between 10 July – 31 October 1940 in the Battle of Britiain in WWII, described as the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces. Mum calls him Biggles after the fictional character in the books by Capt W E Johns, and some of her favourite reads.
