Storms over Dunbar

Visited North Berwick today. Wet when we arrived so we ducked into a cafe for lunch. Still raining when we came out so scuttled to the Scottish Seabird Centre. Came out of there, raining still so went back in for a cup of tea. While enjoying the tea we watched dolphins cavorting around a RIB on its way to Bass Rock. We had thought to go on that trip but £30 each and with the threat of heavy rain we decided against it.

Impressive skies around and thunder too but we seemed on the edge of an energetic storm that dropped a large volume of rain on Edinburgh only a little way to the west.

We remembered that we had the magic trousers in the car. Now completely waterproof we headed out over Abbotsford beach still with dark skies to the south and magnificent cloudscapes all around we enjoyed an exhilarating walk along the beach, watching all sorts of birds around the water’s edge. There were a surfeit of images for today’s blip and as I don’t have access to an SD card reader I’ve had to post iPhone shots. That’s a shame as I wanted to feature Bass Rock too, which was very impressive.

We decided to go to the Ship Inn to eat. We had been informed by Trip Advisor that last food orders was at 8.00pm. The pub was so packed that by the time I was served I was informed that the kitchen had closed at 7.30; I’d been waiting at the bar for 10 minutes.

A little disgruntled we travelled all of 20 yards down the road to the North Berwick Fry for August’s ration of fish and chips. They were excellent. Cheaper the the Ship and a very friendly staff.
