Antymatter

Spruce trees in a local nature reserve have been felled and the trunks left in situ to  decompose and return to the earth. Naturally they are providing sustenance, shelter and habitat in the process so whenever I pass that way I find interesting things. This time I pulled back some loose bark to find ants nesting beneath. This abandoned nest has a pareidolic resemblance to a lopsided human face, formed by the galleries tunnelled out of the chewed up wood. 

In the other photo worker ants scurry to move a collection of pupae to safety. The black dots you may be able to see at the end of the cocoons are excreted waste product. 
I hope the ants all settled down again when I finished looking.
