A little sign. A big story

I went for a stroll with Charlie the dog around Clifton and Windsor Terrace and I saw this sign reflecting a hero’s life and reward.

Sadly I googled this man. He was the eldest son of a successful man . He left home to join the Navy at 14 and after four years of heroic acts, three worthy of VCs and awarded but he was not there to receive it from Queen Victoria because he was still fighting for Queen and country.

Five years later he met the Queen who remarked on his bravery and her expectation of his glorious future. Sadly weeks later he was court marshalled for drunkenness and acts of a sexual nature with subordinates . His triple VC was rescinded. He was exiled on the other side of the world but again had a successful period but died in his early 30s when he was hailed as a hero with no mention of his misdemeanours!

Lesson? Don’t google! It makes you sad!
