The House of Usher
We've gone up market this evening for some Mahler with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Semyon Bychkov with soprano soloist Christina Gansch at the Usher Hall. The BBC's outside broadecast van was in attendance, so they may have been recording it for broadcast at some stage.
You should have seen the lady sitting just in front of me jump when her phone went off in the middle of the quiet third movement. Top marks for the speed of her response, although nil points for not having put it onto silent earlier on. Unfortunately her partner then decided to start eating a crunchy mint which he chewed ... when enough people turned around to look at him I think he probably got the message.
We've been having late breakfasts and lie ins here in Edinburgh to compensate for the later evenings, but we have an earlier start in the morning for the International Phoography Exhibition ...
