Watching TV
Rafi had another trip to theatre in the early hours of yesterday morning. The tube that drains his spinal fluid (EVD) had become dislodged and was causing a build up of fluid in Rafi's head which was making him ill. Colin was sleeping at the hospital and got a call from the ward, he then rang me at home. We both had a sleepless few hours waiting to see if Rafi would be OK. He had to spend a few hours in HDU, but was back on the ward by the afternoon. The new EVD is now working OK.
He had another sleepy day yesterday, only being awake for a couple of hours. Today he looks much more alert and has been awake for quite a while.
When he is awake I like to do things with him such as give him a massage, tactile stimulation with different textures, stretches, talking, listening to audio books or watching the tv. I guess sometimes he'll just want to do nothing ,I know that over stimulation isn't good for him either. As he can't let me know I just have to use my intuition ( he'll probably tell me one day I was well out!)
The girls have stayed home today, Kiera is now in charge of the shopping and they are all doing jobs around the house ( hopefully).
Rafi should have been having his shunt put on today, but this has now been cancelled due to the drain problem. Hopefully this will go ahead next week sometime.
The picture shows Rafi watching his overbed TV. You can see his new bald patch following the latest surgery, as soon as his hair starts growing back he has to go back to theatre.
One of the neurosurgeons has promised to give him a hair wash when he goes to theatre for his shunt insertion, as it will be easy to do whilst he's under anaesthetic ( I thought that was a lovely thing to do).
