BERYL Bikes

These bikes, apparently carelessly left on the pavement, are BERYL BIKES.

There are quite a few city bike schemes around, for use by anyone who can pay a fee and can ride a bike.

My first thought when seeing them, was how selfish to dump them in the rectangular bay without a cycle rack. The pavement was wide enough to allow pedestrians or wheelchair users to get past, but what about partially sighted or fully unsighted pavement users?

Part of the scheme is that they are DOCKLESS, i.e. no cycle rack.

How do you unlock them for use?
With an app of course. The world is run by apps!
(And in some political circles, by apes)

Embedded into the front basket is a solar cell to power the connection to the Internet to enable the app to connect.

So if you feel the need for a bike ride, and you have a smartphone and you have it with you and it is charged up and you have downloaded the app, and the bike hasn't been vandalised, and a passing dog hasn't mistaken it for a lamppost and a prowling fox hasn't gnawed at the tires or something worse, I still suggest you use a car.
