New Year's Eve

Very very slow morning this morning despite Ben wanting to get up and find the grandparents from very early on. Grandad found a box of lego and brought it down after checking with me - from my point of view the reason we don't let Charley play with it at home is mainly because he's most likely to pick it up and take it to the farthest reaches of the house, and drop it down holes in the floor (of which there are many). Eating the stuff is not really a concern. If he starts eating it it's usually a sign that he's hungry: feed him, and he stops trying to eat lego! So the lego was dived on. Charley wandered off with cables, Ben found all the wheels, and Steve and Dad started making moon buggies and spaceplanes. Charley and Ben had a whale of a time!

Last minute shopping this afternoon - I was after a bottle of pink fizz to see in the New Year with. Of course when we got to the Co-op they had the fizz but not my favourite cherry liqueurs so we walked all the way back from the village past the house and into town for chocolates. As you do. And after a new year's eve dinner of leftovers from yesterday (still yum!) and much playing with lego, the boys eventually caved and went to bed at almost 10pm. Of course that meant Charley was back downstairs with us before midnight and Ben was utterly unrousable.

I am drawn to this photo because I love the expression on Ben's face, looking up at his grandad. Such a soulful expression.

I have finally found most (probably about 99.9%) of my photos at long last, having been through the filing system that iPhoto left me with; and spent this evening starting to create Charley's First Photobook. It got to quarter to midnight though and the realisation hit me that I was never going to finish it before midnight (when my extended credits run out) so I have fired off a quick email to them asking for another extension - here's hoping they are kind again!

And so we saw in the New Year with Pink Fizz and mince pies, watching the fireworks on the telly, hearing terrific loud explosions from outside, playing Continuo, and then watching John Bishop and crying with laughter before turning in.

A very merry new year's eve indeed :)
