Bank Holiday Run Day

I was up at 5.00am and just got to the meeting point in Chorleywood in time to join the car club ‘Ricky Run’ to Towcester near Milton Keynes. We S2000s drive in company following our leader on a longstanding and carefully chosen route of B roads which are nearly empty at that time in the morning. We adhere strictly to the speed limits through the villages and are careful to be considerate to all other road users, including cyclists, who often don’t reciprocate in kind. When it’s safe to do so, there’s nothing more exhilarating than driving quickly through the twisties in the company of like-minded people in machines that were designed for the purpose. I followed a cool black boy wearing his baseball cap back-to-front. I’ve been feeling a bit down lately but proof positive that my driving skills are intact was a tremendous tonic.

The countryside was particularly beautiful this morning with blankets of mist in the valleys, golden light filtering into the dark tree tunnels and hot-air balloons hanging above. It was wonderful to see the beaming face of a woman who let the convoy pass on a narrow road and amusing that a pimped BMW driver gave us/me the ‘wanker’ sign as we progressed primly through a pretty part of Chesham.

We have breakfast at the Super Sausage, winner of "Britain's Best Café, 2016". Unusually we sat outside today, it was too hot, even though it was early. Not much tyre-kicking was done,  as it being Bank Holiday, people had other events to attend. The journey back on my own, partly on the M1, wasn’t half as much fun.

My main image is the cars in front of mine catching the early morning golden light and I've added the line-up to extras.
