“Crossing The Bar”

Naval parlance for passing away. I have used a library picture today as there is never a good moment to take a picture at a funeral.
Today I travelled to Torpoint for the funeral of a well known, much respected Royal Naval Veteran, CMEM(M) Mike (‘Jan’) Tarrant. Not only was Jan an old friend he was the father-in-law of my oldest friend.
Jan served in various ships and establishments but was best known for his six years onboard HMS Ark Royal, that six years included the period when the TV series ‘Sailor’ was filmed.
The weather was appropriate for the day, pouring with rain, but he went with a good farewell over a tot or three of rum.
