Wentworth Woodhouse
A tour around part of Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire. A charitable trust has bought it and is renovating it. A gargantuan task. But it should be well worth it. The place has quite a history. Well worth a look. We'll be back for one of the other tours.
Revenue from TV and film companies might help. It seems to be being used for all sorts of productions. The Young Victoria, Gentleman Jack, Darkest Hour, the new Downton film were just the ones I recognised.
We had a walk in the park - very familiar, although we have not been here in years. And then we travelled over to nearby Hoober Stand ( built to celebrate the defeat of the Jacobites in 1745). Up the spiral stone staircase for some great views of the surrounding countryside and towns. This landscape really has changed from J's childhood (and our early married life). Where are all the pit-heads and slag heaps now ? You would never think this had been such an industrialised area.
Extra - a passing shower. As these passed through the great Yorkshire power stations emerged - Ferrybridge, Eggborough and Drax. And in the far distance (33 miles) we spotted York Minster as the sun shone on its towers.
