Surprise View
Shouldn't have left the Eden Valley when I set out to take photos today, cloudy in the lakes as usual. These conditions still make for good photography and are much more challenging when it comes to processing. I ended up taking two photos to get this one; exposure number uno for the ground and another a stop and half darker for the clouds.
A clever trick to retain detail of trees that clash with the sky is to add a layer adjustment of levels (masked where it's needed, don't worry about getting it perfect) and bring the output slider up a tiny bit until it looks a bit more natural. If it looks too gray you've gone too far. Also set the level layer to luminosity to keep a bit of colour.
I spent last night out photographing around Ullswater
