Some more local history...
... because today I have been working on the 'Harrogate Then & Now 2020 calendar' using old photos from the Library archives.
The old photo is of the Crescent Hotel, which was demolished around 1890.
In 1783, the landlord, of what was then known as the Crescent Inn, had been digging in his garden at the back of the inn and discovered one of Harrogate's sulphur wells.The discovery made the inn very profitable because it became one of the town's most popular wells and, unlike most of the others was on private land.
