HOUSTON, WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM
Went birding today and saw rather more than expected. We called into a disused quarry hoping to see the Peregrine Falcon, which we did, but this little beauty out-classed our feathered friends. This is what happens when you strap a camera to what looked like a giant metal spider with eight rotor blades!
The two chaps with the Quadcopters, set two off together so that one machine could video the other one which was flying the camera shown in my blip. They let us watch the action from the flying camera through their Fat Shark video glasses. This was quite a disorienting experience at first as I couldn't stop myself turning in the direction I knew the Quadcopter was flying, though I could only see what the glasses were showing me, which was the view from the camera. So one second I was taking off from the ground (I never felt a thing!) with the second Quadcopter closing in on me, then I was whizzing up the side of the quarry walls, and then looking back over the Lancashire coastline and out to sea. It was an absolutely amazing experience.
Thank you chaps, you made our day. And as for the offer of, if I think of anything special I would like them to film from the air, just because they love what they do, well I'll be having a good think about that one!
My photo taken from the bottom of the quarry shows the Quadcopter with the camera, the top of the quarry, which could be about 100 feet up, and a man surprised by a flying metal spider which appeared in the sky before him. He must have had a tale to tell when he got home today as well!
Oh, and there's a Jackdaw in the photo too. Nearly forgot we went birding!
