Kilvickeon Church and Cemetery

Kilvickeon Cemetery and church ruin

We intended to go to Iona in the morning but by the time we got to the Ferry it was cancelled because of 40 mph winds, rising to 55 mph.

We then went for a drive to Kintra where we went for a walk round the Coastal hills and then found a lovely Croft with a small cafe and shop.

After lunch we drove round Ardkinglas and then down to the old ruins of the Kilvickeon Church and Cemetery. The church was built in Medieval times – late 12th/early 13th century.
It was dedicated to Ernan, son of Eoghan nephew of St Columba. In 15th century it was known as St Eugenius in Ross. Kilvickeon translates from Gaelic as Church or Burial Ground of the son of Eoghan.
