A gaggle of geese...
...greylag geese, to be precise.
Chris and I went waxwing hunting at Ferry Meadows again, but although he saw a few early in the day, they'd mostly gone by the time I arrived, possibly scared away by the very large volume of visitors and dogs. We did see the first siskins of the year though, feeding on birch seeds.
The greylag geese were the most photogenic birds on my short visit, looking particularly lovely against the gold reflections of the waterside weeping willows. There are now quite a few large flocks established around Peterborough, mostly descended from farmyard geese.
My excursion was delayed by a vet's visit. Rosie appears to have developed a urinary tract infection overnight, and has been put on a course of antibiotics. The vets want us to take a urine sample for analysis, but we've had no luck yet...
Thank you all so much for yesterday's birthday wishes, stars and hearts. Waxwings are certainly very charismatic birds :)
