Cragside

Rain in the night but sun to lure us out of the tent. Today we drove over Carter Bar to Cragside country home of William Armstrong. The first house in the world to be lit by hydro electricity. Interestingly the green credentials were highly “illuminated” by the National Trust. The armament side of his wealth and influence were downplayed here but underpinned his philanthropy and restoration of Bamburgh Castle. A day here is not long enough!
