A Day of Surprises

The first surprise of the day was when our flight to Amsterdam landed at Groningen. We were told this was due to air traffic control issues at Amsterdam. The apron was soon filled with other flights arriving at Groningen. The airport has probably never been so busy.

After half an hour or so we took off for the short flight over to Amsterdam. We were told we should make our connection. Unfortunately this was not to be, so our second surprise was we were put on an Alitalia flight. As it was leaving only a little after our scheduled departure time this was quite satisfactory.

The third surprise was that our luggage was not on the Alitalia flight. It had been kept in Amsterdam for the next KLM flight to Milan. I picked up the rental car, but rather than drive over to Lenno we decided to wait for our luggage. Three other passengers in the same situation also decided to wait.

Unfortunately the KLM flight was significantly late arriving, so by the time it arrived we had been in the airport several hours. I had had enough travelling for the day. The fourth surprise was we stayed the night at one of the Milan airport hotels. A nice dinner and time to relax finally.
