Feral goats
We made the most of today's glorious weather by walking to the Newton Tors - Easter Tor and Wester Tor - from Old Yeavering. Once we were off the path leading up to Yeavering Bell, on which there were several large groups of walkers, we saw not a soul, apart from sheep and feral goats.
On past walks in the area we've usually passed several feral goats, but today we must have seen well over a hundred in total, including lots of kids. The prize for the most impressive horns goes to the goat lying down (extra). Once the goats realise that you're approaching, they tend to turn their backs on you, so I managed to take a huge number of several photos of goats' backsides!
Some fabulous views in all directions from the tops - it was clear enough to see the coast and the Farne Islands. The third extra shows the double summit of Yeavering Bell, taken from across the valley. On it are the remains of the largest Iron Age hill fort in the region, and the stone rampart is clearly visible.
Forgot to take my step counter today. A shame, as I suspect the little man inside it would be lying on his back with his feet in the air from sheer exhaustion, rather than jumping up and down with joy!
