... in 1547 the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh took place in Musselburgh, which was the last pitched battle between Scottish and English armies, part of the conflict known as the Rough Wooing, and is considered to have been the first modern battle in the British Isles.
It was a catastrophic defeat for Scotland, where it became known as Black Saturday.
My blip today is the plaque in local Lewisvale Park, where the Duke of Somerset, Lord Protector of England encamped the night before the battle.
Yes, the Scots and English have not always been the best of friends.
