Outdoor Live Action Spectacular
Wow - we just keep on having amazing days on this trip!
We woke to a beautiful red sunrise over the river - and that was going to be today's main blip. After that we visited the Jade Emperor's Palace, up on the hillside - with several fascinating Buddhist temples. More potential blips.
This afternoon we had the chance to see a (rather old but still interesting) documentary from the Discovery Channel about the planning and building of the somewhat controversial Three Gorges Dam (which we'll visit the day after tomorrow) - and then we drank some bubbly at the Captain's reception.
The highlight of the day however was definitely the open-air show we went to this evening. It was of the same genre as "Kynren" - the show at Bishop Auckland in County Durham which we saw back home last year: a medley of live action, special effects, sound, light, etc. If anything it was even more impressive than Kynren: even the whole platforms on which the audience seats were placed moved around during the performance.
Whilst Kynren tells the story of Britain, the show here is based on the Three Kingdoms and the unification of China, round about 200BC.
The live action took place on a stage covered with shallow water which produced impressive reflections. There was a lot of very clever horsemanship - how the horses never slipped during their high-speed galloping I don't know.
The main blip gives an idea of the set, and the extras show more scenes from the action.
