Yardfest

Waiting for the music from our leader Chris.
Today was the last event of our summer season with the All Together Now community choir.
It took place literally in the street (Upper Ada Street) outside someone’s back yard, hence the name, where other entertainments were taking place throughout the afternoon. Too many of us to fit in the yard but this bit of the street was closed off. It’s a preliminary part of Saltaire festival with the main events next weekend.
Saltaire is a UNESCO world heritage site - a ‘model’ village built for the workers in the alpaca mills of Sir Titus Salt. Many of the streets are named after his family hence Ada Street.
You can see here that there is a stall at the top of the street. They were selling New Zealand beers (not sure why as Saltaire has its own brewery) both would have been frowned on by Sir Titus, his village was strictly dry.
After a most enjoyable sing we did avail ourselves of a drink from this stall, it was pretty warm in the sun. Opposite the beer stall was a food stall from which we could smell cooking all the time we were singing so, to accompany our beer, we both had a Beef and Bhaji burger which was dressed with a spicy tamarind ketchup. Very interesting!
A great way to wind up the season. In a couple of weeks we will start singing preparations for the C season!
Back home to a lovely afternoon and gardening.
