St Michael’s Mount.
Today we decided to visit St Michael’s Mount just outside Marazion. This extraordinary little Island lies just a very short distance from the shore and accessed by its own causeway, tide allowing. If the tide is in then a little boat is the only way there. Today as you can see the tide was right out when we arrived at 10:30 am.
This is another National Trust run establishment and was a really brilliant visit. However, it was one mother of a climb to the top! My muscles are not used to this kind of abuse and I fear tomorrow I may feel just a tad stiff.
The house was an absolute delight full of very interesting rooms. The views were fantastic and the weather made it all the better with clear skies . When in one room there were a series of painted glass panels. See extra for the oddly constructed ‘lady’. Mr Tbay and I thought maybe the artist started to paint a man and changed his mind half way through!
The Chapel was very sweet but we were very lucky to be here on this day in September and also lucky it was sunny, as when the sun hits a stained glass at this time of year the window produces the magical ‘fairy light ‘ effect on the floor below it! Just so stunning! See extra for window and fairy lights.
After a quick lunch at the bottom we girded our loins and set off to see the gardens surrounding the castle. Another very steep climb to view terraced garden full of interesting plants able to thrive in this salt laden environment. All very pretty. See extras again.
Then it was time for home leaving the Mount via boat this time!
Another evening out by the harbour, and yes we got a taxi home again!!
