Vietnamese Women
I remember commenting early on in the holiday that feminism had not arrived in Vietnam. I can't remember what prompted me to say it, but it didn't take long for me to realise I was wrong. This is a country of very strong, independent women.
This morning we went to the Women's Museum. The first exhibit was a film of female street sellers being interviewed about why they were there. It was heartbreaking. They were selling the DVD, with proceeds going to the women, so we have a copy to watch in full. The museum went on to show you family life, fashion, work and how women played such a key role in the Vietnam War.
The photo is one of the exhibits showing many of the women who were heroes during the war.
Walking to the museum seemed even more chaotic than usual. There was a big indoor market on and everyone was arriving on their mopeds either delivering huge bundles of goods or taking them away. We had a quick walk around and I've never seen do much stuff. Most is cheap, horrible junk, shoes and clothes,, but the odd stall is selling some lovely silk.
We then found an oasis of calm. A small temple on an island in the lake, reached by a little red bridge.
For lunch we headed back to the same restaurant as yesterday. The same couple of staff were serving us and helped us choose some more lovely food.
After a walk across town (I think we have finally mastered crossing the road here), via a few shops, we're now back at the hotel. A few hours rest and then, sadly, it's time to go to the airport.
