Salterhebble
Today’s the day ....................... for the guillotine
Our final day on the canal and plenty of locks to keep us busy.
This is one of a trio of locks at Salterhebble, laid out around a dog-leg curve. Because this one is very close to a road that goes over it, there’s no room for the usual lock gates. Instead there is an electrically-operated guillotine gate. The enormously heavy metal sheet is hoisted up allowing the boat to slip into the lock. You just have to believe that the machinery is going to work and nothing is going to happen by accident.
I’m pleased to say that all was well .........................!
