Valley Mill of the Eagley mill complex
We often go for a walk along this path and see the Mill over the lodge. Round here a mill pond like this is called a lodge.
The mill building dates back to 1881. For almost 200 years this was one of the largest cotton centres in Lancashire. With the decline of the cotton industry this mill was the first to be turned into housing and finished in 2003.
There used to be a tunnel between the school house and this mill. It was used by the children working half the day in the mill and half the day in the school. I have heard of a building worker in the 2000s seeing the ghost of a child where the entrance to the tunnel used to be. (The tunnel was blocked in 1900.)
