Swing Bridge?

In view of the weather forecast we decided to walk part of Drake’s Trail a 21 mile cycle and walking route which runs between Plymouth and Tavistock in the morning. Followed by a trip to Cotehele which if the weather deteriorated we would be able to explore indoors.

This is Gem Bridge which replaced a Brunel viaduct on the old railway track. We then explored a rather damp Grenofen Tunnel. Just the walk we needed with our tired legs complaining after a weekend of exertion.

We managed another short and rather steep walk down to Cotehele Quay before seeking shelter in the the Edgecumbes Tudor home. We then felt it necessary to enjoy scones and refreshments in the cafe before retreating back to the barn.

Felt we had made the most of our day despite the forecast. Although tomorrow maybe a different matter with heavy thundery showers forecast.
