Dinopine
Thursday evening mrs tsuken and I were out for a farewell dinner with one of my community teams. It was a really lovely evening, with lovely things said by lovely people , a really great card, and as a rather special farewell gift, this ancient thing: a Wollemi Pine.
For those who don't know, back in 2005 a bush walker/canyoner was tripping through the Wollemi National Park in Australia, and happened upon a really weird-looking tree, with a bubbly chocolate trunk and hard fern-like leaves. He took a piece back and confused the crap out of some botanists.
Turns out these things are seriously prehistoric, with only a few adult specimens left, and only in the one tiny section of this one park in Australia - the location of which is still a closely-guarded secret.
More-recently, as part of efforts to get the new re-established, you can buy young plants. So now we're going to have a Wollemi Pine!!!
