The breath of the wind was a sword to slay...
And the sunbeams each a lance [Drought by Will H. Ogilvie]
Every time I stepped outside today I thought of this poem. And what do you know? The poet was a Scottish Australian! A coincidence which fits in with my self-chosen task of finding connections between Australia and Scotland.
The photo is one of my computer screens at work (and yes, it is an ancient one!), showing a news article from the Bureau of Meteorology. Today they had to increase their coloured temperature scale to accommodate the above-50 degrees Celsius temperatures they were predicting in parts of Australia.
It was HOT (and still is at 8pm)! 40 degrees plus in the city (which is usually cooler as we're near the water). I've never experienced anything like it, and I'm no "spring chicken". Dry, not even very windy, and like a furnace. We were all glad to be at work (in an air-conditioned office), and I've never seen so many people stay back late at work!! Any excuse to avoid going out into the heat! And yes, while I was outside, I did see one man wearing the coat of his business suit.
