Paddington Terrace Houses on a hot day
Backblipping, so yesterday doesn't seem as hot to me now.
But when I took this, these houses seemed to be baking in the hot afternoon sun. Because of the lack of windows to let in breezes, these houses get very hot in the summer (unless they have been air-conditioned during renovations, of course!), and are also quite cold in winter as they get less sun exposure to warm them. Though at least they are snug when it is windy!
Paddington is famous for its terrace houses, which you can guess were inspired by the terrace houses of London and elsewhere in Britain. They are perhaps less suitable in Australia, but before elevators, they were the alternative to flats, I guess. For a long while, people "renovated" them by removing the characteristic features. Now they've become quite fashionable again, so many have beautifully restored exteriors - and have been internally modernised (air-con, modern kitchens, interior toilets, etc), thank goodness!
