Shetland

Up for an early morning flight, via Kirkwall to Sumburgh in Shetland.

On the drive up to Lerwick we took a slight detour to overlook Scalloway. A wonderful combination of sea, land, sky and light.

A number of meetings with the children’s reporter and then the Council. On to an evening meeting with the Shetland Area Support Team and the members of the children’s panel. A general discussion about issues both local and national and a look ahead.

We were able to thank those who had covered a spike in hearings recently where the volunteers stepped up to the plate to ensure that hearings could proceed.

We finished after 9pm and were taken by our volunteer leader, George, to a local pub for some light refreshment. We walked into a magnificent sound of music. See extra. A group of players who gather usually on a Friday or Saturday were in to celebrate the 45th anniversary to the day of the barlady starting behind the bar.

A great evening and the music meant we spent a lot longer there. Unexpected and enjoyable.
