Which way?

I've posted this sign post before but now I live in Kendal I am interested in  the finger pointing to Rinteln which appears to be 510 miles away in a south westerly direction and I have never heard of it.  It turns out to be  a town in Germany that Kendal is twinned with and if I had studied the sign more carefully I could have seen that.  The other fingers are pointing to better  known locations- New York, Mount Everest and Scafell Pike.  Google maps agrees that Mount Everest is 4662 miles away as the crow flies but in a similar direction to Germany so I think I've found an error in the sign post.
