Symi
Before we left the UK, one of my friends had done a bit of research about Rhodes and had found out that three cruise ships were due to dock here on Monday. The Old Town and other tourist attractions were therefore likely to be rather busy.
So we had bought tickets to take a ferry to one of the neighbouring islands, Symi.
An early start as we had to be at the ferry terminal for about 8.15am, but we made it in plenty of time. It was a 50-minute trip to one of the other Dodecanese islands and we were well rewarded by a visit to the local folklore museum, attractive churches (which we could see only from the outside), wonderful views and excellent cafes and restaurants. Lots of steps to climb to reach many of them, but well worth the effort. I liked this door we passed along the way.
The return ferry at 5.30pm got us back to Rhodes about an hour later. As we were approaching the island, we saw the three leviathan cruise ships leaving for their next port of call.
