"Due to operational difficulties..."
That's the new generic excuse of choice for Iarnród Éireann. The one-size-fits-all to explain delays over 15 minutes (others don't get a mention, they are an integral part of the commute experience and don't even get a mention).
Operation difficulties...
I'd love to grab the microphone for the station's PA and expand a bit on the topic...
"Jayzus, lads. And ladies. Sorry for this new delay, loike. Youze have no idea how complicated it is to operate them trains. It's... it's... it's, loike, bleeding difficult. Yep that's it. Difficult. Dot's whoy we have them bleedin' operational difficulties. Not easy, trains an' stuff. And not only tha', but youze are expectin' them to run on time as well. You've got to be bleedin' kidding, roight? Anyway, thanks for your patience an' all dat. It's difficult, but we'll get there, loike, eventually. Please God. Tanks."
