Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Home again!

We had (a continental) breakfast in the hotel this morning, and it was super - pastries, crumpets, toast, huge selection of jams (even peanut butter!), fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals. They even had full cream, semi-skimmed and skimmed milk. A very good start to the day.

We then set off up the A1(M) in torrential rain surrounded by big trucks causing such a lot of spray - most unpleasant. However, the SatNav then suggested crossing over on the A66 to Brough, and thence to Penrith and the North. A lovely road, with the most wonderful Farm Shop on the way. By this time we were in sunshine, so it was most pleasant.

We could have/should have stayed a bit longer. There is so much to see and do in Yorkshire - Harrogate is so central. And actually, when we mentioned this to Archie's sitter, she said it would have been fine to extend his stay.

Archie had a great stay with his pal Mylo. He was much more relaxed than last time, and he just doesn’t put up with any nonsense from his pal. They stole each other's toys, and Archie loved Mylo's huge big old bone. Fiona reckons they're quite good pals now. We certainly didn’t get them to sit this close last time. We'll use Mylo and his mum again! All good.

Archie was sick on the way home. We were just about there, and fortunately, JR could pull in and stop safely, while I threw open the door and threw Archie out (he was on my knee) mid-vomit. Just lucky that the startled pedestrian who saw the whole scene wasn’t a few steps further on.

Nice to be home... JR went to the gym to combat a surfeit of holiday pastries.
