Tofana di Rozes

The weather was ok again so we decided to go for a walk from Passo Falzarego to see some old WW1 remains below the high rock wall of the Tofano di Rozes. As it was Saturday it was much busier and parking was more difficult. We set off along with a number of climbers, who were off to scale the steep rock faces, some on normal rock routes and others on Via Ferratas. The valley below the Tofana di Rozes was on the frontline between the Austro Hungarians and the Italians in WW1 and huge workings were made either side of the valley in order to rain destruction on the other side. What a waste of resources and life over 3 years where basically the border remained as was at the start. However the legacy is a good network of well-constructed paths and interesting places to visit. The blip is the rock walls of the Tofana do Rozes from the mouth of a WW1 road tunnel. The extra is a Marmot, some autumn crocus, other wild flowers and 13 climbers on a Via Ferrata.

Yesterday’s blip.
